The International Science Festival is back in May 2011 with tonnes of inspiration, knowledge and innovative perspectives.
General programme 10th-15th May. School programme 3rd- 13th May.

Each year the festival is characterised by a main theme and the theme for 2011 is creativity. Our starting point is the conditions for creativity, whether in the human brain or in creative environments, and we are going to turn the spotlight on creative processes to get closer to fantastic ideas, inventions, and scientific breakthroughs.

Knowledge comes in many shapes and sizes and thus the Science Festival has many different faces. During the festival week Gothenburg is filled with hundreds of unusual activities, experiments, workshops, hot debates, and engaging exhibitions for all ages. Our aim is to be the best and most exciting meeting-place for researchers, schools, and the general public.

During the festival standard lecture‐halls are complimented with cafés, shopping centres, museums, and other outside environments. Quite simply, we’re filling central Gothenburg with science. The main arenas include Nordstan Shopping Centre, Göteborg’s City Museum, and The Experiment Workshop at Chalmers University of Technology. Read more >>

The Science Festival is divided into three branches. Besides the public programme, there is also a school programme. Over 35,000 teachers and pupils from all over Sweden come to Gothenburg to participate. In addition there is a specialist programme for specially invited guests. There is something for everyone during the festival.

In 2010 15 different countries where represented in the three different branches, the public programme, the school programme and the specialist programme. We work together with embassies, guest lecturers in Göteborg and arrangements tied to the international network European Association of Science Events (EUSCEA).
